The European Vaccines Hub (EVH) for Pandemic Readiness is a pan-European research network aimed at accelerating the development and production of vaccines in the event of future pandemics. This major four-year project officially began on 1 March 2025 and celebrated its official launch in Siena in May 2025.
The aim of this initiative is to make Europe strategically independent in the face of health crises. By closely coordinating national research programmes, vaccine prototypes and monoclonal antibodies are to be ready for use within less than four months of the genetic sequencing of a new pathogen. The project is primarily funded by the European Union’s EU4Health programme, which provides funding via the Health Emergency Response Authority (HERA).
The consortium is coordinated by the Italian Sclavo Vaccines Association and brings together leading academic, clinical and regulatory institutions from across Europe. Key partners include the French Institut Pasteur, the German Centre for Infection Research (DZIF) and the Centre for Pandemic Vaccines and Therapeutics (ZEPAI) at the Paul Ehrlich Institute. The work is divided into four core areas: state-of-the-art technology platforms, preclinical studies, clinical trials, and the scaling up of manufacturing processes and regulatory procedures.
