GECCO (German Corona Consensus) is a compact dataset designed to capture COVID-19-related research data – ranging from demographic information such as age, gender, height and weight, through to measurements such as blood pressure or laboratory results, risk factors and medication use, right up to symptoms and treatment methods. By utilising international IT standards, GECCO enables the interoperable processing of this data. To this end, GECCO relies on the HL7 FHIR standard for data structures and primarily on SNOMED CT and LOINC for terminologies. There is also close collaboration with other initiatives and organisations, as the dataset builds on the FHIR-based groundwork laid by the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII), HL7 Germany and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV).
